Fashion Focus Chicago 2008: The Allure of Couture. A Winning Team of Chicago Talent.

There is just something magical about couture, something that makes even the most jaded fashion writers perk up and pay close attention. The Allure of Couture show held yesterday as part of Chicago’s Fashion Focus events was no exception, featuring creations from twelve local designers that certainly did the city proud last night (unlike our baseball teams).

The designers were Sam Kori George, James De Colon, Redshift by Kristin Mariani Frieman, Maria Pinto, Jack Cave, Katrin Schnabel, Billy Atwell, Abigail Glaum-Lathbury, Moire Conroy, Mi Ri Uhm, Vatit Itthi, and Nick Cave.

From the press kit: "High style dominates this runway event offering some of the best high-end, contemporary collections. Created by a selection of Chicago’s elite fashion-forward looking designers, these looks are so new and different it will leave you pondering what defines fashion."  While we weren’t exactly theorizing on the definition of fashion when the show was over, we were very excited about the talent living and working in the Windy City.

Our favorite looks included tropical hued silk gowns from Vatit Itthi, elegant satin cocktail frocks from Maria Pinto, and just about everything that came down the runway from Sam Kori George, especially the stunning coats (perfect for our freezing winters!)
