So, I have to admit — in the past, I myself have focused a little too much on the top trends worn by a cartoonish Lindsay Lohan or a colorful Lauren Conrad. But it’s so easy to take tips from these trendsetters – they’re young, they’re cute, and they’ve got that whole young diva fashionista thing going.
It’s time to snap out of it! The real ladies I should be watching are the ones that look timeless, classic, elegant, and sophisticated all in one shot. These are the ladies that dress their age, but make sure to keep the trends going, the ladies that pop in a crowd, but are subtle enough not to overstate it. These are the women I really should be watching this Fall season (Lindsay Lohan leggings and LC balloon dresses be gone!)
Here are the four fall trends I’m going for and the lovely ladies who wear them:
Charlize Theron: Lace
Never one to shy away from her voluptuous 6′ frame, Charlize Theron accentuates it here in a Prada lace dress. Lace is coming back to the forefront in full force—bags, shoes, and gowns are all sporting this translucent, peek-a-boo trend. It’s great for eveningwear and thrilling at parties—but lace, if done right, can even be worn in daytime. Don’t be daunted, keep it to a minimum but wear lace with finesse this season and you’ll be as coveted as Charlize herself!

Kate Hudson: Jumpsuits
I’d be lying if I said jumpsuits were a thing of the past. They’re back in a big way this season, showing up everywhere from Matthew Williamson to Marc Jacobs. But don’t be fooled, onesies aren’t the easiest things to pull off. Somehow that hasn’t stopped Kate Hudson though. In a see of black jumpsuits, and strange, asymmetrical one pieces, she shines in her silver, metallic Stella McCartney romper that envelopes her body perfectly but actually gives her room to breathe. Though Kate’s not one of those full-figured girls, she proves even they can pull this one off. Who knew?

Katie Holmes: Black and White
Yes, we’ve seen the whole black and white look enough times on Victoria Beckham to take notice, but it’s Katie Holmes who’s recently become the queen of the black/white scene, pairing the two classic colors in a new way—with jeans. Katie has flaunted the look enough times in NYC to give her actual fashion cred — slightly dressing up an otherwise casual look on the street. Though the blouse and sweater sets and the polka-dot pieces can be a bit much at times, Katie slowly finesses her way into fashion royalty with ease.

Gwyneth Paltrow: Tuxedo Jackets
Boring black blazers are so yesterday! It’s the longer, slightly more tailored tuxedo jacket that’s taking over the scene. Fitted and often expertly cut, the tuxedo jacket can be worn over ruffles and lace, or dressed down with jeans and boots. Gwyneth likes to do both. Black is often the way to go, but top your look with white if you dare! The piece is great for, “I’m not sure of the weather†appearances and flirty trends like florals and femme. Smartly crisp tuxedo jackets are the perfect piece for Fall and Gwyneth serves it up right.
