During these cold months that we are approaching, shoes can become an issue for some. There is a fine line between fashion and functionality! Fortunately, boots offer an outlet so you don’t have to choose between the two.

There are a few staple items that every girl needs in her closet, even if you only wear them a couple times a year. Here’s a guide to make it through those sometimes treacherous days of winter!

First off, invest in a nice pair of rain boots. There is nothing more aggravating than arriving at the office with a frazzled disposition. Wet shoes or feet are a sure way to a bad start of the day. It’s so easy to slip them on when you head out the door. Put a pair of shoes in your bag, and be on your way. Nowadays you can get them in any color or pattern, so you don’t even have to alter your outfit.

Booties are a great way to keep your feet warm and still hold on to a little bit of your edgy look during those challenging months. They can easily be worn with tights and a favorite skirt. Booties offer a little bit more support than a regular pump would, so they allow you to walk confidently on those slippery mornings!

I have them in every color, and so should you. I’m talking about flat riding boots. They can be any height, depending on what you are wearing and what looks best on your leg. This look will not only leave you feeling cozy, but it’s also one of the most comfortable and safest ways to commute on those icy sidewalks. Riding boots can be worn with skirts or dresses, so you don’t have to compromise your look during the chillier months of the year.

If you are more of a daredevil or just can’t give up your heel, then opt for a tall boot with a sexy heel. Again, they can be worn with dresses and skirts, but they still offer much more support and warmth than a pump. If you will be trekking several blocks, keep in mind the width of the heel.

Sometimes the task of shoes during the winter months seems daunting. However, don’t despair this year. Take on the challenge of evolving your shoe wardrobe. I, for one, absolutely love the cold weather, so don’t let a little issues like shoes keep you from enjoying the chilly days.

No matter how you chose to combat this season’s weather, don’t put your style on the back burner! Winter shoes need love too.
