Sneak Preview: McQ Alexander McQueen for Target

November 19, 2008 • Fashion

Yesterday (Tuesday), WWD leaked some details about Alexander McQueen‘s collection for Target, McQ Alexander McQueen for Target. Mind you, the designer has not really been a fan of Target in the past. But the idea of spreading his name appealed to the designer. ‘Apart
from the East and West Coasts, my company doesn’t have any visibility
in the U.S.,’  McQueen said. ‘I always liked the idea of people in the
Midwest wearing my clothes.’ Hear that Chicago?

“I can’t work with any kind of restraints,” said the designer. “You can’t give me any boundaries.”

McQueens’s collection for Target which will be priced under $129.99 is set to launch in March. A mere pittance compared to what his clothes normally cost. That’s because McQueen knows
what it’s like when money is tight. “I was brought up on this,” said
McQueen, the son of a London taxi driver. “I wasn’t born with a silver
spoon in my mouth.”

While Go
International targets 18- to 24-year-old women, McQ Alexander McQueen
for Target is positioned to an 18- to 34-year-old audience. “We’ll find
that both younger and older shoppers will dip into the collection,” the
spokesman said. “One of the goals of Designer Collaborations and the
heavy marketing push we have is to attract shoppers to our stores,
including consumers who don’t shop our stores on a regular basis. We
want to increase frequency and encourage first-time shoppers to

Too bad March is so far away!

Shut the front door!! This is the best news I’ve heard all day!! I can’t wait!

  2. I am a shoe-E girl. I was turned onto Alexander McQueen shoes by an associate at a major department store (I will not mention the name, but they have a fantastic collection of brand names) Since she knows I can not resist a pair of high heels, she pulled these along with 4 others, they all made the grade for me, I prefer a heel height of at least 4″ or higher. These reminded me of the style and designs from the 40’s and 50’s, round toe and two tone leather with a bit of sexyness too them. They are a great “day time” shoe to wear and have got a ton of compliments on them and asked, “who is the designer of those”. I see the McQ collection at Target being a big hit for both parties, Target is hitting the right market with it’s trendy styling and hip commercials. can not wait to see what the collection will be like, I may have to stop in a by a few more pairs.
