On the Cusp of Fashion: New Store Opens at Water Tower

November 21, 2008 • Events

Cusp celebrated its grand opening at Water Tower Place in Chicago last night, one of many new stores to open at 835 N. Michigan Avenue. With the newly re-located American Girl Place and other designer boutiques like Betsey Johnson and Custo Barcelona, Water Tower seems to be making a comeback despite the recent bankruptcy rumors.

Cusp is Neiman Marcus’ younger, hipper contemporary offshoot, similar to what Barney’s Co-Op is to Barneys. Carrying lines like Elizabeth & James (by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olson), Alice + Olivia and Rebecca Taylor, Cusp is sure to become the go-to place for the latest ready-to-wear, handbags and shoes.

Cusp Water Tower is the retailer’s sixth boutique and its opening fete did not disappoint. Shoppers mingled among the clothing (holiday party dresses galore!), sipping champagne and sampling tasty hors d’ouvres, while a DJ spun upbeat music that kept the party going. My favorite spot was definitely the handbag collection which featured an impressive and tempting array of Marc by Marc Jacob purses, as well as Stella McCartney for Lesport Sac totes.

The evening’s gift bag (ribbon-wrapped box, actually) contained a lovely print scarf by Raj, a parting gift sure to keep the shoppers coming back for more.
