The trend for designers seems to be to flee the tents this February. During the last several months, several Fashion Week staples announced they would be unveiling their Fall ’09 collections in scaled down, more informal presentations. Those designers so far are; Monique Lhuillier, Naeem Khan, Vera Wang, Betsey Johnson, Temperley London and Carmen Marc Valvo. In this economy, can you blame them? To put on a show at Bryant Park is a major financial undertaking and in light of the current economic situation could appear frivelous (well isn’t fashion really?).
There is a silver lining. Oscar de la Renta on the other hand, has decided to add another show. He will show twice on Wednesday, February 18 at
1 and 2pm. One showing will be presented to press, the other to
retailers. Calvin Klein has been presenting two shows for years.
" has a been good year for me,"Oscar de la Renta told The Daily
last month. "While some businesses faced tough times, I actually added
15 employees to my company. Sales-wise, the last three months have been
solid for us."
