Yes, you read that correctly. According to the Chicago Tribune, several major department stores will be giving away cosmetics beginning Tuesday as part of a settlement in a class-action lawsuit.
The giveaway is the result from the 2004 settlement of a suit accusing retailers and cosmetics manufacturers of price fixing cosmetics. The companies deny wrongdoing, but as part of the settlement will give away $175 million of cosmetics.
Customers who between 1994 and 2003 purchased a product from the manufacturers named in the suit can receive one free cosmetic product. Since there is no receipt or proof of purchase necessary and since we all probably bought cosmetics from the offending companies…we think it applies to every
woman! So hurry, because once they are gone, they are gone.
Only one product per customer is allowed. The giveaway begins Tuesday and will end January 26. That is, if any products are left. Any remaining cosmetics will be given to charity.
Manufacturers involved are; Estee Lauder, Clinique, Lancome, Clarins, Guerlain, Chanel, Boucheron, L'Oreal and Christian Dior.
A list of products that will be available and participating stores can be found at cosmeticssettlement.com.
