Celebrity Fashion. Our Awards for the SAG Awards

January 26, 2009 • Celebrity Style

I have to admit, I could care less about the SAG Awards, but I am desperate for some red carpet glamour so I found myself checking out the clothes. I mean what else are award ceremonies for?

Unlike the Golden Globes, there was a lot of color on the red carpet. Too bad much of it was awful. I am not a fan of salmon or peach on anyone, I think it looks cheap. See for yourself. Another trend last night was draping. It was everywhere. Rami would be proud.

Since the SAG Awards are such a non-event, we thought we would have fun with them and give our own awards…

Best Dressed

America Ferrera in a nude Vera Wang dress with black tulle overlay Fred Leighton jewels. This was my favorite look of the evening. Not many can pull this color (or non-color) off, but America looked stunning. Perfect hair and perfect dark lipstick. Great rebound from the Golden Globes. Bravo.

Kyra Sedgwick in vintage Chanel and a stunning Fred Leighton jeweled necklace. I wish the bustier fit her a little better, but she looked stunning.

Freida Pinto far from slumming it in Marchesa and Martin Katz diamonds

Penelope Cruz in an Azzedine Alaia gown and Chopard diamonds

Rachel Evan Wood in Monique Lhuillier gown and Neil Lane jewelry. Ever since she dumped Marilyn Manson, she has been looking more glam.

Katie Holmes may have skipped the red carpet, but she wowed in Jil Sander and Stuart Weitzman pumps.

We Expected More

Christina Applegate in an emerald Emanuel Ungaro gown, Lorraine Schwartz diamonds and a Swarovski clutch. The dress was too big. Was the shoulder supposed to be falling off? We think not, because it ruined the look or the dress.

Anne Hathaway in Azzaro and Cartier bling. The jewel-encrusted Grecian gown is so 2008! Haven't we seen this before?

Amy Adams in a Giambattista Valli gown and H. Stern jewelry.

Emily Blunt in Pamela Rowland. This dress looked heavy and painful to wear. Because it pulled down it also pulled down her chest. Close, but not so much.

Kate Winslet in a colbalt Narciso Rodriguez and Chopard jewelry. OK, I loved the color on her, but I hate what the dress did to her hips. It was not flattering.

Jenna Fischer in Pamella Roland. Hey this is a huge improvement form her Office wardrobe, but I wish she would have gone a little more glam. The grey color is drab on her, but her hair and makeup are flawless.

Rosario Dawson in Dolce & Gabbana and David Yurman and Neil Lane jewelry. There is just way too much shine and draping going on with this gown.

Worst Dressed

Angelina Jolie in a Max Azria gown and Tiffany jewelry. Sorry Angelia, yes you are hot, but could you try a little harder? Not only did her dress look like a sack, she wore it backwards!

Marisa Tomei in Elie Saab. I hated this dress more than I can say. The peachy-yellow color did nothing for her, there was no support for the girls and her makeup was non-existent making her look washed out. We preferred the Adam Ant look from the Golden Globes to this. OK, they were both bad.

Diana Lane in David Meister. The color! Ew. This dress screams Palm Beach socialite about 20 years past her prime. Hated it.

January Jones in Andrew Gn. She is just making one red carpet mis-step after another.

Tina Fey in Brian Reyes. If you know you are going to win an award (and come on, by now she must) wear a gown or something a little more age appropriate and formal. This would be adorable in a 19 year-old.

Paula Abdul. Need I say more?

Kristin Scott Thomas channels androgyny in a tux and bad orthodic looking shoes.

Worst Tressed

Laura Dern's hair looks like it has been through the blender and the gown, is just awful.

Most Desperate

The cast of Desperate Housewives, duh. Trying too hard are;

Teri Hatcher in Monique Lhuillier whom I adore, this dress is just too much for Teri. Perfect for a young bride though.

Eva Longoria in a peach Jenny Peckham gown, not so peachy.

Nicolette Sheridan cheesing it up in Roberto Cavalli Resort 2009

Marcia Cross in Carolina Herrera and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry

Please Eat Something!

Olivia Wilde in Ralph Lauren and Cartier jewelry. Until now I thought it impossible to look too skinny in white. Olivia proved me wrong.

Most Exposed

Lisa Rinna in another awful dress. Leave it to her to make any dress look trashy. Not only that, she flashed us all (beaver shot)! Gross. The icing on this sad cake is she will present the best and worst dressed in a wrap-up for the awards. How funny is that…for exposure?

  1. Great sum-up of the gowns and couldn’t agree with you more on all of them! Lots of misses here, and did not see any vintage! America Ferrera was absolutely stunning.

  2. Lauren - Second City Style says:

I agree! The only person wearing vintage was Kyra Sedgwick. I was surprised. Instead there were a lot of cheesy technicolor gowns. America looked like she was wearing vintage…stunning.

  3. Sam says:

Your best dressed was terrible. I mean penelope cruz always plays it safe, america ferra that dressed made her hips look like saddle bags, and Katie Holmes really needs a bra. However, i believe that Amy Adams, Kate Winslet, and Jenna Fischer looked absolutly stunning. Kate’s dress hugged her curves in the right way. Also, Keira Sedgwick’s dress fit terrible if it doesn’t fit you dont werent cause it will look all wrong even if its Chanel.

  4. OMG Katie Holmes looks like a big head so skinny…
