Summary: Diane von Furstenberg titled her Fall 2009 collection "Nomad." This modern day nomad is a constant traveler, hopping from one place to another, day to night. The sunset backdrop behind the stage resembled the life of the designer's collection. As seen on the runway, there were clothes for hibernating (cozy sweater capes), animal prints for camouflage, and a sea of blue for standing out on the horizon (ponchos and shift dresses). Shades of pink and purple reflect the break of day, while orange and crimson hues mimic the transformation into sunset. Turquoise skinny pants and sapphire sequin tees reflect the night time sky. von Furstenberg declared, "Wherever she goes, she belongs… her clothes are her friends." Basically stating, no matter where you go, you will fit it. Well, by the looks of the multi-layered pieces and mix-and-match prints, you will presumably not fit in, and rather stand out. While each printed piece DVF presented is lovely when paired with something a little more subdued, the leopard print dress, Navajo embroidered cocoon coat and multi-band wool coat seemed a little much for the average woman when plastered together. On the other hand, if anyone can get away with showing this, it's Miss D herself.
I loved the impressive amount of textures far and wide on the runway. From DVF's signature wrap dresses in velvet, to furry knit sweater coats to silk dresses to sequin minis… cold weather here we come! This primitive collection undeniably evolved from start to finish, or in this case, dawn to dusk.
