Summary: While alarm bells sounded at Thuy's reintroduction of shoulder pads for fall—small, but they always start small—the 2009 looks were largely mixes of lovely separates. A washed watercolor dress and embroidered evening coat were show standouts, and combinations of silk and satin, velvet and wool were classic, if not riveting. The introduction of electric blues and yellows into the neutral-heavy collection was an energizing choice. Though several looks featured hip level pleats and gathers at the hips—find on models, but an unfortunate emphasis for the everywoman—Thuy's clothes were remarkably wearable. And isn't that the point?
