Patrick Nagel artwork from the 80's
Marc Jacobs Collection from Fall 2009:
Summary: Marc Jacobs showed us! For one, he started his show two minutes early (take that naysayers). Two, recession be damned…he took us out for a night on the town…80's style! Flock of Seagulls and B52's hair (check), contoured cheekbones from a heavy hand with the blush (check), Alexis Carrington shoulder pads (check). It was back to the roaring 80's for Marc Jacobs. A time when Regan was president, we partied like there was no tomorrow, nothing was too big (cars and shoulders) we spent money like it was 2007 and we wore neon colors sometimes 3 at a time. Some of us even have photographic evidence (scary). The first thing that came to my mind when seeing the collection were the famed Patrick Nagel posters (the cover or Duran Duran's Rio). Thank God Marc Jacobs chose to escape the doom and gloom of the current economy. He was obviously thinking of the good old days and clubby nights in old New York. Although, along with CBGB, they are long gone, he gave us 10 minutes of a show that was a step back in time, but with the now expected Marc Jacobs twist. I thought this was an era I never wanted to revisit, but given the current state of things, I gladly welcome a neon blue cape again. Will it sell? Probably.
