New York Fashion Week Fall 09. Max Azria Goes Goth

February 17, 2009 • New York Fashion Week Fall '09

Summary: This season, Max Azria got goth. In a departure from his usual collection of sexy, well-draped jersey dresses, looks from Max Azria's namesake line were piles of lace and velvet, evoking images of futuristic vampires rather than party-going starlets. There were successes—like a beautiful cream jersey dress over an embroidered lace bodysuit—and individual pieces like arm-length gloves and ultrasuede leggings that will be perfect complements to a wardrobe come fall. Overall, though, while I applaud risk-taking and elements of dark seduction, I felt like I was at the concert of a beloved singer who refuses to play any of the hits that made them famous.
