I do not want to be reminded there is a recession while watching the Oscars, so those who played it too safe in basic black or boring gowns did not work for me. The major trends of the evening were barley there colors like white and shocking colors like red and blues. The one-shoulder gown was huge and a trend we wish would die already is the mermaid fishtail.
The Best Dressed
Penelope Cruz in vintage Balmain and a 69-carat diamond Chopard necklace
Heidi Klum in Roland Mouret and dripping in almost a million dollars worth of Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.
Marisa Tomei in a gorgeous pleated Atelier Versace gown and vintage Van Cleef & Arpel jewels
Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive and Cartier diamonds. The details on this dress were amazing.
Freida Pinto in John Galliano
Miley Cyrus in Zuhair Murad and Neil Lane jewels. I know I may catch hell for this, but I loved this dress. Even if the skirt looks like cabbage.
Sarah Jessica Parker in her "barely mint" Dior Haute Couture gown and Fred Leighton diamonds. Yes, she was close to popping out, but I still loved it.
Natalie Portman in Rodarte accented with Kwiat diamonds. I love that she wore a different color than anybody else. Buck the trend. Way to go.
Taraji P. Henson in Roberto Cavalli and Fred Leighton jewelry
Evan Rachel Wood in Elie Saab Couture and Neil Lane jewelry
Tina Fey in Zac Posen. I wish I could have found her solo, but this dress was stunning on her.
Amanda Seyfried in the color of the evening…a red Valentino gown
Angelia Jolie in Elie Saab and amazing emerald jewelry by Lorraine Schwartz. I wish she would wear something, anything that wasn't so dull and dark. I would love to see her in a color! The emeralds, however, were spectacular.
Kate Winslet in Atelier Yves Saint Laurent and Chopard jewels. This dress looked better on TV, but it's still just OK.
Amy Adams in a red Carolina Herrera gown and a stunning 630 carat Fred Leighton bib necklace. Loved the necklace, not so much the dress.
Diane Lane in Dolce & Gabanna. Mind you, the dress looked much better when she was standing next to her husband Josh Brolin.
Jessica Biel in Prada and Louis Vuitton jewelry
Beyonce in House of Deron. On so many levels this dress was awful. It looks look a curtain.
Lisa Rinna. What can I say? She will always be on this side of the list. Maybe one day she will shock us all.
Tilda Swinton in Lanvin. Oh no. She looks like an android.
Viola Davis in Reem Acra. I just don't hink it's a good idea to blend with Oscar.
Vanessa Hudgens in Marchesa. Not so much.
Whoopie Goldberg….come and knock on our door. We've been waiting for you.
