Becky Ellis for Second City Style Magazine
Last month we started with new runway trends and worked backwards to
sleuth out how designers are influenced by previous decades. This month
we start in the past — 1967, specifically — to see how to get the modern incarnations of vintage looks.
The inspiration? Family Circle's January 1967 issue (price, fifteen
cents) with a cover reading “Best Budget Fashions For Spring.”
Jane Benford begins the article:
After a hectic season of thinking and doing for others, begin
your new year with a thought of you — of you in a new dress. On these
pages: A group of dresses with the look that says “contemporary.” The
fabrics are seasonable — to wear under your winter coat now. The
colors, both in plains and bright offbeat prints, are as gay as
spring's first bloom.
I couldn't have said it better myself.
