The 80s Return in Celeb Form!

The 80s are back — in a ridiculous way! And I don’t mean ridiculous because of the outrageous 80s influences – neon brights, acid-wash denim, sharp shoulders, tuxedo blazers, cheap plastic sunglasses and flashy geometric prints. I mean ridiculous because it’s ridiculous how much 80s was out there on the Spring and Fall ’09 runways and how much it’s back on our favorite celebs.

Celebs provide the perfect example of how to ride the 80s culture wave again — who else could pull off an asymmetrical blouse, padded zippers, intricately bright sequins, or a Stella McCartney jumpsuit? Perhaps only the celebs can!

But now you can too! You don’t need to be as out there as those risk-taking celebs but you can incorporate an 80s look into your daily attire — touches of lace, square pegged jeans, and neon earrings are just a start!

Here’s how the celebs are doing that whole 80s flashback thing — and how you can too!

Like Kristen Stewart in her Herve Leger, you too can pull off a bright technicolor dress to spunk up any party or even a night on the town. Just remember to offshoot with basic makeup or plain pumps. And if you can’t make a full-on change, you can always flash a little rainbow here and there with a bright green headband, fluorescent yellow necklace, or neon print shoes.

Where to Buy: DKNY Ikat Print Strapless Bow Dress $345, Shopbop.

Sharp Shoulders
I can’t stop raving about the architectural look of the sharp, white blazer Kim Kardashian wore to the Y-3 show during Fall Fashion Week in New York, but if you can’t be as statement-making as this celeb, simply find a sharp blazer with slightly less pointy shoulders. Sharp shoulders are back in a big way, minus those uncomfortable shoulder pads!

Where to Buy: Balmain Leather Military Jacket $7,045, Net-A-Porter.

What celeb hasn’t been seen out in form-fitting leggings to replace their pants — it was the “It” item of that flashy decade! And if you’re going to do the full-on spandex look, you could always swap them for footless tights under a comfortable skirt, in the way that Katie Holmes paired them with these pretty blue number.

Where to Buy: Black Liquid Leggings $61.60, Members Only.

One again, Kim Kardashian is making waves – purple waves that is! The hit color of the 1980s, it’s being incorporated in everything from frothy dresses to pretty shoes. Violet is back with a vengeance!

Where to Buy: Thakoon Kisses Georgette Dress $1350, Saks Fifth Avenue.

Acid Wash
Acid wash denim is back, but even more so the ripped jean look that was all over the runways this season! Pair yours with a bold, funky top like Kate Hudson or go for a menswear vest like Kim Kardashian!

Where to Buy: Cheap Monday Tight Jean $70, Urban Outfitters.

Cheap Plastic Sunglasses
It’s not just Sienna Miller‘s thing anymore! Although the actress has been seen out in many a Ray-Ban sunglasses, she’s pushed the trend on to the Olsen twins—and even Madonna herself, who livened up a schoolgirl costume with a hipster cool pair.

Where to Buy: Ray-Ban Outsiders Wayfarer Sunglasses $31, Shades Daddy.

Man Blazers
We’re not just talking tuxedo here! Man blazers stand out from the rest because they’re long and fitted and they’ve got that shoulder thing going on, but they curve to a woman’s body. Check out the look on Naomi Watts!

Where to Buy: Theory Gabe Blazer $375, Saks Fifth Avenue.

Touches of Lace
Lace overlays may have been the thing at the Academy Awards (did you catch Kate Winslet‘s dress?) but you can also incorporate them into everyday attire. Find a vintage tee with patches of lace, or sew some on to the bottom of your jeans for something truly avant-garde, but of the moment.

Where to Buy: Elizabeth & James Silk Chiffon Shrug $365, Net-A-Porter.

Think they’re not so comfortable? Think again! This easy to pull off (and surprisingly body friendly) look was also seen all over the runways — and of course all over the celebs! Stella McCartney is the jumpsuit of choice and why wouldn’t it be? Gwyneth Paltrow and Maggie Gyllenhaal both seem to wear them quite nicely.

Where to Buy: Stella McCartney Reversible Jersey Jumpsuit $995, Net-A-Porter.
