The Beauty Of Organization

I recently had my closets professionally organized. Not only is there a home for everything now, but it also helped me see where I’m lacking within my wardrobe and what areas are, let’s say, oversaturated. Here’s a look at what I’ll be focusing my shopping efforts on and I hope it inspires you to do an inventory check; spring is the perfect time!

Wanted: Work-Appropriate Tops

Because I realized we spend most of of our time in the workplace, I’ve done a good job of stocking up on corporate-friendly pants (versatile black slacks, cropped narrow pants, dark wash denim). But I found that I don’t have the shirts to accompany them. Sure, I have t-shirts galore and a tank top for every day, but what about appropriate, yet statement-making tops? Button-down blouses have never worked that well for me, so I’m thinking Nanette Lepore’s Cascade Top ($215 at would be a springy addition to my shirt department. Another option is See by Chloe’s Dainty Crochet Top ($297.50 at

Wanted: Day To Evening Dresses

While my hangers are full of casual sun dresses, I’m lacking in the overall summer dress department and am looking for designs that are suitable for work, but can carry over easily to evening engagements. I think a short sleeve dress by Vera Wang Lavendar Label ($575 at will do just the trick. I’d pair it with nude pumps for work and change to some fabulous high heel sandals for night. I’ve been on a serious hunt for a long sleeved dress and I think I finally found one – BCBG’s Silk Woven Dress in china blue silk ($495 at

Wanted: The New Skirt

The closet re-org had me doing a serious skirt inventory check, and I realized that while I have quite a few of them, they’re a bit last year. I’d like to update with one flirt skirt (shorter with an ounce of bounce) and one tulip style. For the flirt skirt, French Connection has it right with their Twist & Swirl Embroidered linen design ($168 at and on the more formal side, I like Banana Republic’s Pleated Bubble Skirt ($125 at

Always wanted: Shoes, Shoes, Shoes

Even though the organization proved I have way too many shoes, I’m not going to let that stop me from buying more. Who am I kidding? Shoes bring me joy. I’m still looking for a pair of perfect ballet flats to replace an old pair I’ve had for years. What I really want is a pair of classic Lanvins, but because I can’t afford them, I’d be happy to settle for Calvin Klein’s Scrunched Lizard Print Ballet Flats ($98 at And while I certainly don’t need a pair of “Cutout Booties, I’m a sucker for the trend. Currently, I’m coveting the Pour la Victoire’s “Bianca”, a platform leather version in whiskey brown ($204.40 at
