Blue, metallics, silver, short hems, and see-through textures were also all the rage at this year's Costume Institute Gala and if the A-listers were looking for ways to be style-savvy risktakers, this year was it as traditional flowing gowns were replaced with futuristic minidresses and menswear femme pantsuits among the slew of stars that attended this year's event: "Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion” Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday night.
Let's take a look at who took our breath away—the ones that made us gasp in awe and the ones that made us gasp in shock!
PS I'm not sure who got the memo about the return of the minidress at a big gala event (privy to the Oscars) but apparently it was passed around!
Anne Hathaway, a style star in all categories, was everything wrapped into one. Part glam rock, part mod, part risk-taker, part statement-maker–she looked utterly gorgeous in Marc Jacobs. (Note: Not everyone was so partial to the rocker chick look. As you could see from a previous post, EIC Lauren Dimet Waters hated it!
A little bit cream puff…
What's shocking about this picture is that I actually think Mary-Kate looks better then Ashley! I'm not a huge fan of Mary-Kate's dress but her makeup and hair are beautiful while Ashley looks nice, but traditional. We've seen enough togas and open backs in our lifetime.
I think a bird decided to make its home there.
A bird decided to make it's home there too…
This look went out of style with Diane Keaton in the '80s!
Looks like someone ripped off half the dress!
Yes, yes, I do think Anna Wintour outdid herself here although she was trying too hard with all the trends. I guess you can call her a trendsetter.
Classic and beautiful!
Is she wearing a carpet?
Sorry Eva, but I expected more from you!
I like the thought process and the texture, but that thing hanging from the bottom just doesn't work and the whole ensemble looks like she's wrapped in gauze.
For heaven's sake, Karolina, this is a Costume Institute GALA in honor of models like YOU! Represent!
Ay dios mio!
Not sure how anyone could show up to the ball of balls looking like this!
Didn't I see you in that vampire movie with Robert Pattinson??
She looks like a tree stump that sank into a swamp!
