Tonight will bring out some of New York City's most style-savvy faces for a private fashion show followed by a meet and greet with designer Zac Posen. Hosted by Gilt Groupe, the immensely popular online-private sales company, the show will feature the designer's new resort collection and allow the very lucky invitees to meet Mr. Posen at a reception afterward. So far the very short list of posh names scheduled to attend include Annie Churchill, Marjorie Gubelman, Alex Kramer, Zani Gugelman, and Alex Lind Rose.
Yet with the discount retailer sponsoring a show of Zac Posen's newest collection, speculations are being made whether this will develop into a trend of selling current season merchandise on the site. “Full price is something we talk about as a possibility with a lot of
designers,” said Alexandra Wilkis Wilson, one of the founders of Gilt Groupe. Wilson-a veteran of working with such labels as Bulgari and Louis Vuitton– teamed up with eBay extroadinaire Alexis Maybank in 2007 to design an enterprise that would allow couture labels to be available to the masses without sacrificing the quality of the product. All items available on Gilt Groupe's site may be from previous seasons, but they are authentic-and affordable. Posen's show is not the first designer collection that Gilt Groupe has sponsored, and they have several more currently in the works. But despite showcasing designer collections that are fresh and new, Wilson notes that the philosophy behind the site will, for the time being, remain the same.
