Zibba: Best Overall Style & Design
Lots of good things were happening at last night's Third Annual Independent Handbag Designer Awards, chief among them, the first shoe award. Introduced because of the symbiotic relationship between shoes and bags, this category drew nominees from all over the world. The winner, Raphael Young, was the perfect way to kick off the tradition: when his shoe flashed on the screen as the nominees were announced, a collective gasp went up from the audience.
Another good thing: You'll actually be able to buy it. Foot Petals–those groovy things you put in your high heels to make them bearable– sponsored the category, and the shoe will be produced in conjunction Sam & Libby. Foot Petals' creator and certified pedorthist Tina Aldatz will be creating the inner structure, and she assures us she'll make it comfy! The winner, Rafael Young will be collaborating with Sam Edelman shoes and Foot Petals to design a limited edition pair of shoes to be sold exclusively at Verve in New York City and footpetals.com.
