The highly anticipated collection by Jil Sander for Uniqlo has officially been named. Reps behind the Uniqlo label announced earlier today that the name for the line will be +J. The moniker will be displayed as a simple black logo in sans serif font, true to the Jil Sander minimalist style. The collaboration between the Japanese brand and the German designer had to initially find a creative loop hole around the fact that another Japanese firm, Onward Holdings Co., owns Jil Sander's former fashion and possess commercial rights to her full name. The designer has been under the radar since leaving her namesake line about five years ago after reportedly clashing with the then-owner Prada Group.
The Uniqlo partnership will be Sander's first creative venture since, and her role will actually extend beyond the +J collection to other Uniqlo apparel and accessories. But both parties involved understand that the designer is focusing her initial efforts on the fall/winter launch of the new collection. Sander has been splitting her time for the past few months between her home in Hamburg, Germany and Uniqlo's Tokyo studios. +J will be sold at Uniqlo's flagship stores in major cities and on the brand's webstore, though a release date has not yet been scheduled.
