Guests lounge at The Shrine for the 'Moroccan Luxury' Benefit

Last Friday night was all about showcasing Chicago style for a good cause, courtesy of charity event planning company Helping Hands Forever. The cause behind the fashion forward fete was to raise funds for Connections for Abused Women and their Children (CAWC). Formerly the Chicago Abused Women Coalition, CWAC is an initiative committed to ending domestic violence throughout Chicago. The program uses a "self-help, empowerment approach," to assist victims of domestic violence through counseling, advocacy, a 24-hour hotline, and a shelter holding forty-two beds—the largest in the city. Helping Hands Forever, in collaboration with several Chicago-based labels, planned the function to raise awareness of the problem of domestic violence, as well as promote the invaluable services at CAWC.

Held at the swanky South Loop lounge The Shrine, the benefit's theme of 'Moroccan Luxury' was apparent in everything from the sultry lighting to the exotic flower arrangements adorning the tables. A traditional belly dancer performed fluidly before a fashion show featuring designs by Chicago-based labels MGO Fashions and Isabella Designs. A silent auction was held throughout the festivities, offering up goods like an autographed Michael Jackson record, a Derrick Rose jersey, jewelry from sponsor ChicGems, and services such as wine tastings, and classes at sponsor Flirty Girl Fitness. When the fashion show commenced, the program revealed an interesting addition of several of Chicago's powerhouse business women mixed in with the models. They included Helping Hands Forever founder Jenny Sepulveda, Michigan Avenue Magazine editor-in-chief Suzanna Negovan, vice president of CMN Elena Sotomayor, president of WCR Lauren Mitrick, and owner of Flirty Girl Fitness Kerry Knee. The inclusion of the Chicago businesswomen reiterated the theme of empowering women and conquering abuse. Overall, the night was a beautifully orchestrated tribute to the generosity of CAWC and a grateful acknowledgment of their mission.
