American Finalists, Odds Increase for Swiss Textiles Award

Kate and Laura Mulleavey of Rodarte were the first Americans to win the Swiss Textiles Award in 2008

In 2008 the American design duo of Rodarte, Kate and Laura Mulleavey, became the first Americans to walk away with the prestigious Swiss Textiles Award. Now only a year later, the number of American brands in the running has increased to three, out of six finalists total. The new American brands include Alexander Wang, Thakoon Panichgul, and Ohne Titel; the remaining international candidates are Erdem, Alexis Mabille, and Peter Pilotto. Though odds are up that an American may be bringing the award home again, nothing will be confirmed until the winner is announced November 12th where the chosen designer will receive 100,000 euros in addition to the esteemed honor.

Since the inception of the Swiss Textiles Award in 2000, most of the winners have gone on to accomplish great things in the fashion industry. The award has been given to the likes of Raf
, who was then appointed head designer at Jil Sander; Bruno
, who then took a job at Hugo Boss; and Marios Schwab, who was
recently named Halston's new designer. The judging committee typically includes
Suzy Menkes, Kate Betts, and 13 other editors and top retailers from
Zurich, Paris, Moscow, New York, London, Tokyo, Berlin, Munich, Seoul,
Milan, and Kuwait City. Isabel Toledo and Kate and Laura Mulleavy will
be this year's special guests at the ceremony in the fall, held at the Schiffbau in
