31 lucky new members have just been adopted to the family of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, an honor that many up and coming designers would do anything to have; after all, an acknowledgment by the CFDA results in the utmost respect and support from the fashion industry. The freshest crop of inductees included several notable, yet expected, choices such as Alexander Wang, Chris Benz, Jason Wu, and Chicago's Maria Pinto. Others that were not as predictable included Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, obvious celebrities, but also the design duo behind the Row and Elizabeth and James. The inclusion of the twins marks a new level of open mindedness the CFDA has begun to use in viewing celebrity designers. CFDA president Diane Von Furstenberg has gained a reputation for inducting a high number of new members each year, and seemingly decided the time was right to let in the occasional celebrity design venture. CFDA executive director Steven Kolb said, "Diane’s whole approach to
fashion and design is inclusiveness. She always refers to the CFDA as
her extended family." Well, the Olsen twins' lines do seem to follow well enough along with the CFDA image— now let's just hope they don't carried away with the likes of Diddy or Lindsay Lohan.
