I refuse to believe that summer is more than half way over and that
it's almost time to start shopping for jackets and tall boots. I don't
know if it's denial or optimism, but what I do know is that there's a
lot more things I want to do and many more places I hope to see before
the leaves start turning and I get my sweaters out of storage Because summer is the season for road tripping, I thought I'd put together some recommendations on packing the fool-proof, road warrior bag.

The ultimate weekender bag is the essential foundation for any car trip.
It should be spacious, durable and make you excited to fill it up and
toss it the backseat of the car. Unfortunately, they're not the easiest
to find – many of my favorite handbag designers don't carry a size big
enough, while fashionable styles from luggage brands are far and few in
between Salvatore Ferragamo offers a sweet option in
canvas, but at a designer price ($1,750 at For
designer deals, I've had good luck at T.J. Maxx because
they carry such a wide selection of quality Italian leather lines.
Check out a store near you for unique, good-size options.

Before I start packing, I first plan my travel outfit, so in this
case – what I'm going to wear in the car. When considering road
trip-worthy wear think comfortable yet cute. Breezy, light-weight pants
are my choice since they're loose-fitting yet provide coverage for
those long car trips when you need to stretch your legs in front of you
on the dash. By Malene Birger's silk print pants are
perfect ($360 at – you'll stay cool and will be
stylish enough for any stop along your journey. Remember to bring a cardigan or pull-over in case the A/C is not in your control!
