Rumors have been recently swirling about designer Ellen Tracy leaving the bridge business to create a better-priced line. Brand Matter LLC has sold the operational part of the Ellen
Tracy business to RVC Enterprises and licensed RVC for use of the brand for
women’s sportswear in both the high-end and bridge categories. But is Ellen Tracy ready to leave its post? The collection has had significant growth over the past year after many ups and down in the business. Currently, under president Mark Mendelson, the brand has competed with the likes of Lafayette 148, Eileen
Fisher, Elie Tahari, Tory Burch and Magaschoni, and held its ground as one of the most successful selling collections. If it were to leave the bridge apparel's arena, a noticeable void would occur on the bridge selling floors of department stores that carry the line like Saks and Neiman Marcus. But the collection's fate has not be sealed entirely; “Nothing has
been decided yet. Things are still very much up in the air,” Mendelson said, adding that Brand Matter LLC would be holding a meeting to discuss the line's possible new direction today.
