This year Macy's Glamorama fuses fashion, food, music and entertainment. The theme is how "Contrasting Elements Come Together." Which is much like the 2009 Fall Runway trends that you will see strutting across the stage at the Chicago Theatre.
I had the opportunity to talk to Laura Schara, Macy's Fashion Trend Expert about Glamorama, and the fashions we will be seeing this year. "There is quite nothing like Glamorama, anywhere, not even in New York." Laura told me. I thought for a minute and had to agree. It is a fashion show, concert and party all rolled into one. And this year it benefits for the first time the Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. One of the best things about this event is that there is always a great fashion show, and the musical performances are so entertaining that everybody (fashionista or not) likes it!
This year it is headlined by Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter Ne-Yo, jazz trio The New Standards and Jadyn Maria. Plus I was told there is a special well-known guest performer!
As for the fashion this year, you will see Fall '09 Collections of CNC Costume National, Jean Paul Gaultier, Just Cavalli, Marc Jacobs, MaxMara, Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti, Sonia Rykiel, Philosophy by Alberta Ferretti and SportMax. Of course you can purchase everything you see on the stage (turned runway for the night) at Macy's. The theme for Gamorama this year "Contrasting Elements" is much like the fall collections. "There is a fusion of bright color, prints and patterns and different textures and styles mixed together, like at Marc Jacobs for a good example," Laura went on the explain. "This season there is a lot of 80's influence like shoulder pads and you will see everything from techno to retro."
So everyone's big question: How do we dress for the event? Through the years many Glamorama party-goer dress in the event's theme. Laura's tip: "This theme gives everyone the opportunity to really be creative – the body is a blank canvas. People can mix and fuse different eras, styles and colors, like polka-dots with plaid." It sounded to me like it gives you the opportunity to wear what is actually in style! "So people will just have to dress fashionably normal this year," I joked. Laura told me "Oh, there will be people who will really get into this theme! They can go over the top with this one!"
And "be seen" you will. The party continues at Macy's State Street after the show. The entire 7th floor is turned into an amazing after-party with different food themes, drinks, desserts and dancing. And our Second City Style camera will be there as well. We'll be looking for the best dressed as we have for the last several years! Don't miss this fun fashionable party!
