In fall 2008, a novel idea came to fruition with the Six Scents initiative. The project paired breakthrough designers with master perfumers to create limited edition fragrance collaborations that embodied each designer's unique style. The maiden class of the initiative included Jeremy Scott, Preen's Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi, Gareth Pugh, and Alexandre Herchcovitch. Each scent was numbered individually, packaged in a customized design, and topped off with a crafty title thought up by the designer's themselves. Jeremy Scott's fragrance was called "Illicit Sex," while Preen's designers titled theirs "Teen Spirit." The proceeds from the collection were sent to benefit the Designers Against AIDS foundation and the International AIDS Awareness Education Center in Antwerp. After the rousing success of the first year, the Six Scents initiative has launched again and picked a whole new class of designers to stylize. The second series will include Phillip Lim, Damir Doma, Henrik Vibskov, Henry Holland, Richard Nicoll and Toga—each ready and willing to have their essence bottled for a good cause. The second installment will is set to debut next month, with hopefully the same amount of liquid reflection as the first. The Sixth Scents fragrances are available exclusively at New York retailers such as Henri Bendel, Oak, Seven New York, and the New Museum Store.
