Now that Rodarte's collection for Target is completed and set to debut this winter in the U.S., head designers and sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy have decided to take their label to Europe in an interesting and eclectic pairing with Parisian boutique, Colette. The clothing, accessories, books, and knickknack outpost located on Rue Saint-Honore in the heart of Paris' shopping district suggested the sisters set up shop and create a temporary gallery space for their collection (which sounds so much more chic than pop up shop). Colette co-founder and buyer Sarah Lerfel was eager to have the Rodarte label under her roof again, having been one of the first stores to carry the label.
In addition to a limited quantity of the label's fall designs and artful objects— like the marbled ballet flats the label designed with Repetto which will be sold exclusively at Colette—the Mulleavy sisters are also planning to include personal items in the retail portion of the shop. Some of their favorite items that will be sold include their various tastes in music, DVDs (especially horror films), specially created stuffed animals, and limited edition jewelry made by their mom. The design duo has even asked friends and colleagues to contribute to the Colette collaboration, resulting in a unique array of extras such as Love necklaces by Alexandra Grant, pillow cases by Miranda July,
glitter taxidermy by Annakim Violette and books with covers
hand-painted by Rebekah Miles, from “Charlotte’s Web” to a Kurt Cobain
“Rodarte has always been so inspiring,” Lerfel said of the upcoming exhibit. “I’m fascinated by
their world. We already gave them windows for their first season and I
was impressed with the way they built them. So I’m happy to give them
space at Colette to express more, to let them introduce their
collection but also everything they like.” The gallery and boutique space will launch during Paris Fashion Week and will remain open for the duration of that month.
