Macy’s kicked off a fantastic weekend with a heralded celebration of music, dance and fashion this past Friday. The downtown Chicago Theater offered an hour of grand entertainment, kicked off by the surprise guest appearance of Miss Piggy, decked out in her very own Marc Jacobs garb. Thus ensued choreographed runway shows intermixed with musical entertainment provided through the talents of Jadyn Maria, jazz trio The New Standards, and Grammy-Award winner Ne-Yo. Some of the designers gracing the stage included: CNC Costume National, Jean Paul Gaultier, Just Cavalli, Marc Jacobs, MaxMara, Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti, Sonia Rykiel and SportMax.
After Miss Piggy, after the fashion, and after the music the event was wrapped up with a downpour on stage just over a line-up of scantily clad male models strutting underwear by Papi to the infamous tune, “It’s Raining Men.”
All entertainment, including the show-stopping rainy conclusion was intermixed with motion controlled high-resolution screens and full proscenium projections, taking fashion into the cyber world. Technologically speaking, it was fabulous.
Following the breathtaking performances, guests were led to Macy’s across the street for the Glamorama after party. For the rest of the evening, the seventh floor of the downtown Chicago department store was transformed into a maze of entertainment. The floor was separated by an assortment of themes, all featuring varying décor, 25 culinary bars, and various levels of entertainment that spanned from dancing to the works of DJ Mel Debarge to practicing your golf swing with Nintendo Wii. The furnishings weren’t the only breathtaking aspects of the evening; everywhere you turned you saw models in body paint, cute candy girls, and guests wearing their fashion-forward best.

Fabulous and fashionable, this year’s Glamorama also showed its soft side—this year, Macy’s has partnered with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana with Friday’s event directly supporting the charities.
Through music, fashion, and entertainment Glamorama '09 held up to its reputation of an enjoyable evening by displaying next year’s fashions, upcoming years’ technologies, and this year’s musical talents. This year was they outdid themselves through their efforts with the RMHC-CNI, Miss Piggy and of course, the raining men.
