After many fashion media outlets had all but confirmed Jean Paul Gaultier's imminent departure from his creative director post at Hermes, new reports surfaced yesterday that the rumors were indeed not true. Gaultier had supposedly planned to leave the Hermes label following October's Paris Fashion Week, but reps for the luxury house are now adamant that no such changes would occur. “These rumors are without foundation,” explained Hermes. “Jean-Paul Gaultier is not quitting any of his responsibilities.” Gaultier has enjoyed a successful six year run as creative director and many think has been responsible for sparing the Hermes house from suffering during the recession, a fate that has been virtually impossible for most other luxury brands. And with Hermes holding a 35 percent share in Gaultier's namesake label, it seems both brands will benefit more from keeping the partnership intact.
