Anna Wintour-who? The American fashion world may still be caught up in “The September Issue” hype, but
as far as the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) is
concerned, it’s all about Marc Jacobs for the next
week down under. The Melbourne-based center has created what it is marketing as the
first film festival dedicated to Jacobs’ work, as part of Melbourne
Spring Fashion Week. Running from August 29th to Sept. 6, “Marc Jacobs on
is actually the fourth in a series of ACMI fashion film festivals, which
have previously looked at Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel and Christian

The film festival is scheduled to open with Loïc Prigent’s 2007 documentary
“Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton.” Over the following
seven days 23 screenings will be shown highlighting Jacobs' work through various cinematic perspectives, including, “Louis Vuitton, Champs-Elysées, The
Don Munroe’s “Marc Jacobs’ New York,”
features a series of 1985 to 1987 vignettes from Andy Warhol’s “Fifteen Minutes” television program where Jacobs was headlined, Wes Anderson’s
2007 “The Darjeeling Limited,”
consists of a 60-minute film documenting 25 years of
Jacobs’ runway shows, and James Ivory’s “Slaves Of New York,” illustrates the Eighties cutting edge scene in which Jacobs first began.

ACMI film curator James Nolen told WWD that neither the Marc
Jacobs nor Louis Vuitton companies provided any assistance during the six months it took him to track the films
down, but Nolen was able to secure some inside info on Jacobs from  fashion blogger Bryanboy. Bryanboy, who recently starred in a 50-minute
documentary on Jacobs’ fall season for Marc Jacobs Japan, has been
flown in by ACMI to launch the "Marc Jacobs on Film" festival and introduce the screening of each evening. WWD reported that he is expected to have the ostrich skin “BB” bag from Jacobs’ fall 2008
collection that was named after him in tow.
