With so much talk surrounding New York's upcoming fashion week, little attention has been paid (at least on this side of the Mississippi) to the fashion-related undertakings of the west coast. L.A. is actually holding their own version of the now explosive fashion week kickoff event, "Fashion's Night Out," and the details have started to make their way over.
Fred Segal Melrose will stay open until the 11 p.m., the now standard late night time slot for most participating stores. The store will host appearances by designers, stylists, photographers and artists. Among them jewelry designer Chan Luu will showcase
her newest wrap bracelets, Rory Beca will debut her fall "Willy
Wonka"-themed collection, Paige Geller will demonstrate how to distress your own jeans, and Whitley Kros designers Sophia
Coloma and Marissa Ribisi will teach shoppers how to perfect the
over sized T-shirt look and introduce a limited-edition style that will only be
available that night. Cobrasnake will be taking photos and selling
T-shirts, while Nike designers will be on hand to customize exclusive styles of shoes.
Neiman Marcus has also signed up to have special events, channeling more of an east coast vibe with food vendors Nathan's Hot Dogs and Factors New York cheesecake. Though the store is only slated to stay open until 9 p.m. that evening, they will be featuring a jazz band, runway shows, special gifts with purchase, and a special trends
presentation with Vogue West Coast editor Lisa Love.An exclusive party is also in the works for California-based fashion lines Toms and Trovata, though the venue has yet to be disclosed.
