For his BCBGMAXAZRIA Spring '10 collection, designer Max Azria highlighted the notions of graphics, shape, and geometry. His collection played off of a theme of abstract expressionism, though offered a more modern version of an often antiquated school of thought. The designs toed the line between mathematical and romantic as Monet-like prints in vibrant watercolors were geometrically segmented with cut outs, and mesh, and updated with details like ruching and trapunto shoulders. The breeze of jersey gowns created ethereal movement while the sculptural shape of silk crepe frocks anchored their various candy-colored hues. The femininity of silk georgette layers created silhouettes that could only be referred to as Grecian goddess-like and a new sense of volume from a cut-up classic white tee provided new ideas on proportion. Although the much of the collection's aesthetic was a study in calculated division, the asymmetry, as seen in the color blocked panels and the one shoulders, came out as balanced, sensible, and an overall look that was equal parts airy yet poised.
