Summary: The DKNY Spring 2010 Collection was all about brightening up a black, white and neutral city wardrobe with bright blooms of colors, scribbles and bold graphic prints. The first pieces in neutral black and white were quite strong – there were several menswear suits with sharp pinstripes and large bold white floral squiggle prints with oxford shirts. The jackets were a clean boyfriend shape with strong , slightly padded shoulders. Jackets were worn with loose, but not too slouchy cropped pants, cuffed above the ankle, soft short skirts, or with tailored shorts. One of my favorite looks was a black pinstripe shorts suit. Peeking beneath the shorts were DKNY Smoothies, Donna Karan's new toning bike shorts, giving a sporty edge to a look that was borrowed from businessmen. Worn with multi-strap stiletto high heels, this DKNY woman is ready to conquer the city.

Besides the graffiti squiggles and hot pinks, there were many pieces with large bold prints, as well as pieces covered in sequins that shimmered and shined. This looked best when worn under jackets. The colorful "Urban Garden" print was a bit too much in the jacket and skirt ensemble, but worked beautifully in the dress and jacquard zipper coat. The smaller silk peony print silk pants were slightly reminiscent of Zoobas, which we'd care to forget or maybe even pajamas! It looks fine on slim models but I fear seeing the wrong women wearing them.Yes, there were a lot of 80's inspired shapes, but all of the proportions were kept just right – loose and comfortable but clean and not overbearing or sloppy.

Donna Karan was successful in creating "clothes full of color and joy…like the bloom of a roof garden against a gray city skyline" for her DKNY Spring 2010 Collection…and may have just started some bright new trends you'll probably see out on the streets.
