New York Fashion Week Spring ’10. Behind the Scenes at Thuy

September 13, 2009 • New York Fashion Week Spring '10

The unexpected combination of 30s glamor with just a hint of S&M was a winning combination at Thuy, and a fun jumping-off point for the pros at MAC Cosmetics and Sassoon when creating the make-up and hair that completed the look.

Luc Bouchard of MAC wanted a "color to wake-up everything in the collection." Settling on coral, he mixed magenta, yellow and white Paintsticks to get a custom color for the eyes. He framed the eyes with a mascara on the top lid only and a defined brow, leaving the rest of the face soft, using Studio Sculpt Foundation along with Satin Powder and Finishing Powder–all with optical diffusers for the airbrushed look.

Sassoon Creative Director Elaine Mitchell created hairstyles that were lacquered and shined to look like glass to compliment the S&M theme. The 30's style chignons were modernized using twists,
fishtails, and ropes and positioned slightly asymmetrically for a bit of an edge.
