G-Star's high-production value show and solid spring collection wow-ed at the Hammerstein Ballroom again this year. Both men's and women's wear were classic G-Star–well-cut, fashion-forward urban clothing with militaristic details–but bright white freshened them up for spring. Besides white, most everything was done in navy or blue with kelly green accents, or a playful navy and white piranha toile–preppy colors that were anything but. Banded collar and majorette jackets were well-paired with bodysuits, and WWII-era dresses and coats got extra sex appeal when featured with short-shorts or lower necklines.
Previous G-Star shows have set my expectations high, and the designers continue to meet them. My one complaint was their use of, ahem, drop crotch shorts, but since they seem to be popping up on runways of all kinds, perhaps its me, not the fashion world, who's falling behind.
