Summary: The inspiration behind the Geren Ford Spring '10 collection, according to head designer Geren Lockhart, came from the bright splashes of color seen around Buenos Aires in the early Seventies. Lockhart had told WWD last week her muse was a pairing of "Gaucho meets polo on Estancia," channeling the exotic flavor of the landscape, as well as trends of that time. She compiled a bright, breezy collection full of fluttery, charmeuse shapes in teal, melon, and violet and more sturdy silhouettes in nautical-themed leather. Prints splashed across more neutral pieces from tribal-like Tiger Ikat to the Pollock-esque Splatter Paint. Lockhart kept her shapes fairly simple, though playful in draped tanks, tie-waist dresses and pleated jumpers. Many of the looks were anchored by her Elephant Rivet belts which lent a tougher edge to the sometimes saccharine nature of the looks. A few elements that were linear to other trends seen his season included the White Zip Front Sheath, Silver Pleated Up Sheath, and the Nautical Ruffle Bustier—each offering a more grown up, modern step away from the consistently festive but girlish vibe.
