Summary: Tory Burch admitted to a myriad of muses for her Spring '10 collection, including noted color photographer William Eggleston and sculptor/inventor of the mobile Alexander Calder. Burch hoped to combine those innovations with “the styles of the nerdy schoolgirl, the free-spirit hippie, the cool surfer chick and the girl next door,” as told to WWD. Yet despite her eclectic melange of resources, the collection stayed true to Burch's signature feel of embellished, preppy chic. collection was made up of mostly separates, blended and stylized together to create key looks. Models stood on the runway in a relaxed, laidback manner, chatting with each other and posing to offer all angles of the outfit.

The cheerful, unfussy tone of the environment was reflected in the clothes. The cue taken from photographer Eggleston was easily apparent, brights shocks of color wove themselves into safari-like khakis and beige, brightening up a mostly neutral palette. Some outfits boasted more statement making hues like a bright pink tweedy suit, the deep blue shimmer of a sequined blouse, or the primary-colored floral print of a lightweight button down. Tye dyed shorts and slip dresses were also included and, though not my personal favorite, found their place among the collective dynamic. And that was just the thing—Burch was somehow able to pull elements of several different ideas and blend them together pretty seamlessly.  Denim jackets held their own against tailored blazers. Adorable laser-cut leather shorts and skirts (with tiny, heart shaped cut outs) sweetened up tougher tops laden with metal rivets. And slouchy sequined dresses peeked out from oversized trench coats or layered over simple tanks for a more versatile look. Burch definitely took some risks with the eclecticism of collection but was able to maintain her voice through the young, laid back aesthetic, as well as through the addition of her signature logo-embossed bags we all love her for so much.
