Milan Fashion Week. Giorgio Armani’s Elegant Calculations.

September 25, 2009 • Fashion Shows

Summary: Giorgio Armani's Spring '10 collection seemed to balance equal
parts signature construction and fit with a more out of box, zesty and
youthful vibe. The collection featured a plethora of exaggerated
geometry, seen everywhere from constructed shoulders to  bold,
Escher-like graphics. Even the sporadic pattern of florals was
delicately captured and streamlined in pin-tucked, satiny sheaths. So
far critics have said the collection played more to the feminine side
of the label, but with a sophistication and refinement that could only
be achieved by Armani and his self-proclaimed "rigorous" constructions.
Said constructions kept away from the dull or mundane with bold
outlines, color blocking, and heavily laden embellishments. Classic
evening shapes got a more modern update with the use of liquidy pouf
skirts, illusion netting, and vibrant embroidery. Day time suits
juxtaposed traditionally tailored jackets set against flouncier pants
in a variety of clean, crisp colors like sky blue, cream and silver.
All in all the pieces together formed a collection that confirmed
Armani still holds an affinity for pairing timeless construction and
fit with modernized innovations, a risk that always ends up proving to
be more unforgettable than unsound.

So I love this… In my recent interview with Celeb Stylist Mariel Haenn, we talked about keeping a timeless foundation, no matter how edgy your additions. It doesn’t surprise me that great designers get this too. Sending girls down the runway in sequined bikini bottoms is fabulous, but giving me something I can wear is interesting.
