The cosmetics counters were buzzing at Saks on Michigan Avenue last Friday morning. NYC Makeup pro and La Prairie Color Ambassador Raychel Wade was in town to provide one-on-one consultations and personalized color looks. Women were asked to bring in their makeup bags and have Raychel give her assessment. Couldn't we all use some expert advice? Especially when it comes to how we look! And Fall is the perfect time to reassess our color cosmetics. I was lucky to have opportunity to talk to Raychel and get her insider’s picks from La Prairie as well as pick up a few of her application tricks.
The cool and easy-going Raychel proved she knew her stuff! I witnessed her directing a woman to try on a beautiful shade of sheer pink on her lips, which looked perfect. "I don't really steer women away from what they like," she told me. "That woman likes pinks, as seen in her bag so I just showed her…a better pink for her." "Women have to feel like they are themselves, it sounds like a cliche but I want women to be who they are when they wear make-up. Mind you if there is something drastic that they need to change, I will tell them!"
She went though my make-up bag and just like you may expect of an artist, she started drawing with some of the pigments to check the true color on her hand. Most of the colors I had worked for me – (whew!) but she told me not to wear a pinky eye shadow palette that I had. She was so right…I always look tired in those colors!
Now I was anxious to see La Prairie's Plumage de Nuit fall colour collection and get the expert tour from Raychel Wade. La Praire's color cosmetics have the same cellular treatment properties as their beloved skin care lines, and on top of that the gorgeous colors and the beautiful silver packaging (lets face it, packaging is important) makes these cosmetics amazing!
Eyes: First she showed me the limited edition eye shadow quads. There are warm golden colors, Les Sandpipers and cool colors, Les Doves. Rachel says you would think the warm would be popular but the cool are actually better for more women. And she says don't feel pressure to use all of the colors in a quad because sometimes eye makeup looks just as pretty in one simple hue.
Lips: For lipcolor this fall Raychel recommends pairing them up. Start with a Luxe Lip Colour (lipstick) and finish with Cellular Lip Colour Effects (gloss). What is Raychel's must have gloss? Firefly Glace, because it gives a polished look even over a deep lipcolor.
