For parents looking to dress their kids in well-tailored, children-inspired, completely wearable clothes, look no further than Stella McCartney's newest endeavor: a line of childrenswear for GapKids and BabyGap. The 70 piece line will be launched November 2 at select Gap stores worldwide and runs in sizes from newborn to age 12.
McCartney told WWD, "I guess I tackled it in the same way I would one of my own ready-to-wear collections, but then the challenge was, 'OK, I've got to get into the same mind-set of a kid and what they might like. It's quite a good thing to have kids when you're designing a kids' collection, to aware that they actually have their own point of view."
True to McCartney's ethics, there is no leather used in the collection which features fabrics like organic cotton, cashmere and wool – though she stresses that nothing is "scratchy." The designs are aimed to please parents and children alike, including a T shirt printed with a superhero design, white high top sneakers that can be customized with the accompanying set of markers, tulle tutu skirt for girls, and pajamas in a dinosaur print bag for boys. She even included a grey sweater dress knit with an intarsia leopard design from her Fall 2009 collection and gray skinny jeans. Now I just need to find a baby to spoil!
