Zac Posen's taking on another task that many other designers have embarked before: making a new lower priced line, launching exclusively at Saks Fifth Avenue spring 2010.
Z-Spoke will deal less with the Zac Posen signature dresses and more with "chic sportswear". Starting at $78, the line will depending majorly on strong separates, including basic tees, blazers, knits and cotton shorts. “I think it’s going to surprise people,” Posen told WWD while describing the 60-piece range collection. " “To me, it’s more appropriate to build a whole brand and collection around this price point. "
Posen launched his signature dress collection in 2001 when he was just 21. Though plans are brewing for the line to take over other retailers, Posen will be starting at 17 Saks and saks.com for now. Saks has carried Posen's signature collection since 2004.
Posen also says that the brand so more in-tune with current American culture than his signature line. Using adjectives such as “minimalist and utilitarian”, the line will have an "urban hipster quality" with a retro vibe.
“It’s not Zac-for-less, it’s not the little sister collection at all,” Posen explained. “The dresses — that’s something I can do with my eyes closed. This is about a new identity.”
