Alexandre Birman was honored Tuesday night with the Vivian Infantino Emerging Talent Award at the Footwear News Achievement Awards in New York City. The awards, which are referred to as the "Oscars of the shoe industry," showcase the best and brightest of the shoe world.
"I have worked with shoes all my life… but I am a little bit nervous, because now I have to live up to this award!" he noted while giving his speech for the prestigious award.
Designing by age 12, Birman started creating shoes in his father's shoemaking factory in Brazil. After debuting stateside in 2008, he has been picked up by high status retailers like Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. And he will continue to take the world by storm: he unveiled his plans for his first flagship store in San Paolo, Brazil in 2010.
Birman has already made a name for himself here in America by having such fans as Leighton Meester and Kate Hudson. Meester's character even mentioned her undying love of Birman's signature peep toe bootie on her November 2 show of "Gossip Girl".
