Five hundred artist from all over North America, showcased their fine crafts at the ninth annual One of a Kind Show and Sale in Chicago. This holiday shopping event gave you the opportunity to mingle with designers, purchase phenomenal handcrafted pieces, and support independent artists. One of a Kind Show and Sale offered a stimulating experience which includes awe-inspiring fashion shows, gourmet treats, and entertaining live music.

The event was held from December 3-6, on spacious eighth floor of the Merchandise Mart. The booths were arranged neatly by categories such as; Emerging Artist, Fashion District, Fine Arts, and many others. The show brochure was extremely helpful to me since I was lost (for the longest time) in the gourmet gallery without it.

When I finally arrived at the Fashion District, I instantly fell in love with the jewelry line poesi, which featured a pair of gold filigree earrings delicately entwined with warm pearls and glimmering crystals.  All of the pieces gave off a romantic aura and were pleasantly accentuated by warm gold, dashes of mellow green and drops of ruby red. These jewels are perfect gifts for your stylish best friend or your trendy little sister.

Finally ripping myself away from the poesi booth, I met designer Lana Williams, who makes outstanding hand knit bags from multiple strands of rich silks, lustrous leathers, and even plastic bags! Lana's designs are inspired by her international travels and are made from local and recycled materials that she finds from various destination she visits. Make sure to check out the 'featured country' tab on Lana's website to find the origin of the fabrics and to see some amazing photographs of the locals.

After having my fill of great accessories; I stumbled upon a lush white coat from Hortense Salvatore. The fabric was remarkably supple and the design was impeccably conceived and crafted. Hortense's Autumn/Winter 2009-10 collection of feminine coats and jackets are targeted towards the highly sophisticated women that needs something classy while running around town on errands or business meetings. Chicago women were in abundance at the booth because lets face it, Hortense is designing for us.

;t worry if you didn't make it out to this year's One of a Kind Show and Sale; you can find the full list of artists on the One of a Kind Show and Sale website and most of the designers are accessible online.
