Second City Style’s 12 Days of Christmas (Shopping) ’09. Rachel Adds Her List of Needs to Her List of Holiday Wants.

December 14, 2009 • Shopping

This holiday season I have tried being frugal and smart in my gift shopping. I haven’t thought much about things that I want for myself, so for the first time in a while I will only ask for things I need to stay in the spirit of economic purchasing. Not only is this a fantastic time to examine what I have to find the holes that need to be filled, but also to purge some of the items that I don’t need.

J. Crew Tissue Turtleneck Long-Sleeve Tee, was $39.50 select colors $24.99

With that in mind, I desperately need turtlenecks. Yes, one would think that a fashion-obsessed person like myself would have these items in stacks and piles. To the contrary, I have plenty of cardigans, sweaters and t-shirts, but a mere one oversized turtleneck to speak of. I have heard nothing but wonderful things about the J. Crew Tissue Turtleneck for layering and on its own, so I’ll start with one of those on my list, maybe in a few colors.

 Smythe_Boyfried Blazer
Smythe Linen Boyfriend-fit Blazer, $610

I have three blazers, one of which is appropriate for work, which is an embarrassing statement from someone in the corporate world. I love the boyfriend-fit style to blazers, so I would love to start building my blazer collection with one of these lovely (and work-appropriate) garments.

Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, $489.00

I hate to copy my editor, Lauren, but I also have the Kindle on my wish list. I travel a lot for work, and the extra weight of a newspaper, magazines and novels weighs down my purse a little too much for comfort.

Laurex 15.4” Laptop Computer Sleeve, $39.99

I recently invested in a new MacBook Pro, and as much in awe of my new toy that I am, I am also extremely scared that I may hurt it. This laptop sleeve is not only stylish but also will keep my new purchase safe from harm during my daily commute.

Kate Spade Randi Rain Boots, $125

Speaking of commuting, one item in my wardrobe that I desperately need that I’m embarrassed to admit I don’t have, is a pair of rain boots. By avoiding the winter slush, my chances of slipping would be diminished and my slacks would have a much less likely chance to be ruined. I love this pair of Kate Spade rain boots – the color stands out, and I admit, they’re quite stylish for sloshing around in.
