If you’re like me, you might experience a pervading sense of ickyness after the holidays have passed and the rest of winter looms ahead of you. But don’t dismay! I’ve assembled this little lookbook to inspire and brighten your dreary days.

I can’t think of a more optimistic collection than the RM by Roland Mouret Rainbow Project that’s exclusive to Net-a-Porter. The limited edition line features seven mini dresses in bright colors constructed of stretch silk gazar (a special organza that’s crisp yet delicate). Each look is young and hip; shown here is the Ostadar Dress in tangerine, a fun cocktail style that balances exaggerated shoulders with a deep V ($1,740 at net-a-porter.com).

Those of us in Chicago can finally join the worldwide phenomenon that is Zara. With the opening of the Michigan Avenue store in October, this fashion mecca has now become a new stop on my shopping route. While their website doesn’t offer an easy browsing experience, let alone e-commerce, the stores are like a safe haven that welcome you in and tell you everything is going to be okay. From fabulous outerwear to a new headband collection – and everything in between – Zara is the ultimate cheer-you-up retailer.

New year, new handbag. That’s one of my resolutions. Juicy Couture’s Downtown Rule Breaker Bag looks like the perfect carry-all to me. I like the slightly worn leather with mini pockets and large flap pocket. Available in light grey at shopbop.com ($398). Another lovely choice is the Foley + Corinna Disco City Bag, in black pebble leather with zipper pocket details and detachable shoulder strap ($198 at shopbop.com).

Sometimes all you need is a new pair of shoes to improve your outlook on life. The Tory Burch Metallic Haven Pump will brighten anyone’s day – this dressy shoe can be worn with a cocktail dress or will complement a nice pair of black pants, too ($325 at toryburch.com). Another platform option is the Town Peep Toe Pumps on Broken Platform ($206.50 at shopbop.com) by Velvet Angels, a modern twist on a classic – this sole features a notch detail that makes the shoe look likes it’s floating on air.

Happy New Year!
