Happy New Year! Not only is it a new year, but a new decade as well, one sure to bring fashions we’ll all long for. But before we look forward to the fashions of the future, it’s always fun to say farewell to the fads of the previous decade and determine what styles were most popular and which designers ruled the runway. It’s easy to see the most popular styles were the reemergence of the 80’s and all its day-glow glory; the ultra chic twist that was added to the hippie look and lifestyle; and the unfortunate hipster style that ruled street fashions. It is not as easy, however, to pick one designer who was more successful than any other during a ten year long stretch, but one person who does come to mind is Stella McCartney.

McCartney’s work with Chloe at the beginning of the decade won her a VH1/Vogue Designer of the Year award, as well as the opportunity to dress Madonna for her wedding. Having celebrity friends such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Liv Tyler wear your designs doesn’t hurt, but neither does the fact that her collections are made up of clothing modern women can wear and look professional, confident, relaxed and feminine all at once.

While her designs have evolved as she herself has gotten older, one mainstay in her clothing line is that every garment is at least 15 percent organic. She is a PETA supporter and never uses leather or fur in any of her collections, a rarity for major fashion labels. This green lifestyle trend along with her family name has certainly added to her success and popularity, but so has her many collaborations. McCartney has designed garments and products for Target, Adidas, Puma, H&M, Gap Kids, and LeSport Sac, just to name a few. It would be difficult to surpass the success she has had in the previous decade, but if her spring 2010 collection is any indication on how well she will do in the new decade, she’s off to a good start. Cheers!
