Welcome to 2010! It's a new decade and a fresh new year of fashion awaits us all. And to get things kick off in the millenial and forward thinking way, V magazine has been slowly leaking details on what they're calling their upcoming "Size Issue". Sure the notion has been done before, but the revolution in their thinking comes from the notion that plus-size models don't have to be limited to plus-size issues. It's time to integrate the "traditional" model with one that has more realistic proportions! Who would have thought this concept would still be so groundbreaking in our day and age? And yet it is V that takes the first steps toward this movement.
V Magazine's prospective covers featuring Dakota Fanning (left) and Gabourey Sidibe
The pictures the mag has released so far feature two models, Crystal Renn and Jacquelyn Jablonski, in a spread titled, "One size Fits All." Though both models have a significant difference in their shape and measurements, both pose the exact same way in the exact same outfit and eureka! they end up looking strikingly similar, proving that good fashion can look fabulous no matter what your body type may be. To further the wow factor intended for this issue, V magazine also just released a sneak preview of the magazine's cover. Two separate covers will drop sporting two very different girls: Dakota Fanning will sport a bouffant and a waifish look on one while breakout star Gabourey Sidibe will provide a closeup of her voluptuousness on the other. The drastic difference of the covers makes way for the progressive attitude reflected in the pages. Though it might be nice to see a model that falls somewhere in between the two girls, we defintiely applaud V magazine for it's efforts and hope to see many more follow suit.
