It’s a brand new year, a new decade and a new era of fashion to look forward to. New Year’s eve kicks off every year right with the best reason to get dressed up and kick up your heels in a seriously stylish way. But the party doesn’t have to be over come New Years day, since January launches the beginning of awards season and all the decadent, drool-worthy pieces that come down the red carpet. Luckily for us this ultimate fashion showcase begins early, displaying the latest trends and hottest picks in eveningwear, and providing inspiration on how we can become the belles of our own balls, galas and bashes for the entirety of the year. Take a cue from any of these paparazzi-prone looks, for the fanciest fete or just a fun night out, and channel your own radiant celebrity style.

Kick off the new decade with some sleek and modernistic style. One of the hottest looks from the millennial runways is the sleek metallic sheath. Shimmy your way into any club enswathed in these scintillating fabrics and you’ll light up the room like a disco ball. The liquid-like sheen of the dresses makes for a dramatic “poured” effect that few other fabrics can pull off. Diane von Furstenberg offers a body-hugging full-length version, but a perfect option for less formal occasions comes compliments of Chris Benz, The only thing needed to complement the look is a dazzling, mega-watt smile.

For big events these days, more and more silver screen stars are choosing confections in soft washes of rose and cream. A pile of pastel layers offers up the ultimate ethereal look when the correct color is chosen. Nude hues too close to an actual skin tone runs the risk of making the wearer appear washed out. But a creamy neutral like this dress from Elie Saab flatters pretty much every complexion. For chillier winter nights, these angelic frocks can be paired with tights and sky-high heels. But as spring approaches, feel free to show off loose waves and plenty of skin to enhance the nymph-like look.

Nothing spells siren like a vampy, satin piece in the hottest shade of red. Give that carpet a run for its money with a luscious splash of rouge in a sophisticated shape. The more current version of vixen replaces the short, skin-tight pieces with much classier options. A longer length that hugs your curves is the epitome of a subtle, sultrier sexy. Christian Dior paired their crimson gown with elegant jewels, but Kay Unger‘s cocktail dress provides an equally glamorous alternative with an embellished neckline. Slick on a ruby red pout and prepare to be sought after the rest of the night.

The most traditional option for any formal occasion, red carpet or otherwise, is always going to be black. Any fashionista with a finely tuned eye had seen just about every possible style of a black dress, to the point of exhaustion. But if you’re determined to keep things in the dark when preparing for your next formal fete, then consider the more creative options that designers are rolling out for the coming year. A particularly interesting take is the tiered column dresses that boast layers of lace, tulle, and other and eye-catching fabrics. The brilliant designers at Badgley Mischka made a statuesque statement with a cascade of metallic ruffles. BCBG‘s version channels a vintage, more romantic theme in lace, sure to dramatically lengthen any figure.

Every woman loves the opportunity to get dressed up, but many of us can easily fall into a routine when choosing appropriate evening wear. Any one of these statement-making pieces will provide an instant lift when faced with the dressing-up doldrums. And let’s face it, there’s no better way to start off a new year than by knowing you look damn good.
