The upcoming release of macabre movie mogul Tim Burton's version of the time-honored classic, Alice in Wonderland, is quickly becoming the most talked about topic in the fashion world, as well as in Hollywood. The cinematic remake of the story, starring Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carer, and Anne Hathaway, has already inspired many collections and exhibitions, and it's not scheduled to be released for another two months still. The oddly eccentric and whimsical nature of the story, and more importantly it's characters, have had high end labels all aflutter. Fine jewelry designer Tom Binns created a collection of decadent Wonderland-themed baubles. Parisian boutique, Printemps, recruited Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane, Bernhard Willhelm, Haider Ackermann, Manish Arora, Ann Demeulemeester
and Maison Martin Margiela to invent one-of-a-kind dresses with Alice in mind, and even the brilliant beauty minds behind Urban Decay and O.P.I. have created sets specifically to be worn down a rabbit hole.
The latest addition to these uber-stylish ranks is Stella McCartney, who has partnered up with Disney to create an exclusive accessories line inspired, of course, by Alice and her oddball crew. When asked what to expect, the designer noted, "rabbits, Mad Hatter's hats and hearts and spades." Hmmm….color us intrigued. The line will only be sold out of McCartey's boutiques, not the Disney stores as some might assume. Though photos have not yet been released on what the pieces will look like, the designer promised the line would be available in time for the film's mid-March release.
